Which one of these is NOT like the others:
A. a doctor.
B. a business broker.
C. a surgeon.
D. a software consultant.
E. a writer.
F. None of the above.
So what is your answer?
You probably said “E. a writer”.
You do know that I AM A WRITER, right? 🤦🏾♀️
But I get it. The other careers sound “more solid”, more likely to “make money”, and easier to “map out”.
And when your mother is a doctor, your father is a business broker, your brothers are a surgeon and software consultant – it can be difficult to understand how I came to be.
I know it’s difficult for my parents.
They want “the best” aka a career that has a minimum base salary that will be able to cover you basic needs and gives them bada** bragging rights. I plead the 5th as to which more important to them. 🤣
Yes, I am writer. I am also a social media content creator & strategist, financial investor, and reader wrangler.
Unfortunately Harvard did not have a “Unpacking the IG algorithm: A Seminar in How to Lose Your Damn Mind ” or “Intro Gaining Followers without Gaining Weight: A Course in Stress Managemnt”.
So I’m learning to let go of what I want to work and leaning into what will work. I’m learning how to batch content, how to start a successful podcast 🤞🏾, and how to get you to read, “❤️“, and share my long a** posts.
The lack of certainty in creative careers is unnerving – especially to those who do not understand that creating art and surviving as an artist is a combination of talent, luck, connections and most importantly – strategy.
I am E. a writer. who runs a business. based and build on myself. I may not be like the others but I can and will be successful. And success, success is something everyone understands – even if they don’t “get” the process.
xoxo (hopefully) your favorite reader wrangler,
