Resolutions, Resolutions, RESOLUTIONS.
We all make them. Eat healthier… fast food. Join a gym…I said join, actually working out is for 2019. Baby steps, not the stair master.😂
My 2018 New Year’s resolution was to increasing my blog’s traffic. I average 20 views per day – my goal was to average 200 views per day. I also wanted to increase my followers on social media – 10k for Instagram, 20k for Facebook, 10k for Twitter, and 10k for Pinterest. I spent hundreds of dollars I don’t have on advertising to speed up the process – I still owe Facebook $76.13. #sorryboutthat
I did this in the hopes of making my writing dreams come true. For me, writing is more than a career or a way to provide for my son – it’s my attempt to create an inclusive community that embraces people that society often shuns, like those with mental health disorders, those whose gender identity does not match their sex at birth, homosexuals, queers, trans people, minorities, and …. I could keep going forever.
4 years ago I decided to start my blog and build a space that was open, honest, and free of judgement. And filled with laughter. Lots and lots of laughter. And potential a few snorts. #justkeepingitreal. I’ve written 55 posts in 4 years. 8 of them in the last month. Needless to say my 2018 Resolution is probably not going to be achieved – unless the social media fairies decide to swoop in last minute.
But what I did achieve is overcoming my fear of failure that has left me paralyzed to post anything at all. I still write using a pen name because I’m afraid that my future employers will not be as supportive as all of you; and I worry that my friends and family will be embarrassed to be associated with me.
So my new goal, is to build this community so that one day I can not only help others find the courage to confess their truth but also the comfort of knowing they are not alone after they do. I got your back. And your behind. I will catch you, and if I don’t succeed, I will keep you company on the way down and we will figure out a way to get back up. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. And now neither am I. ❤️
So before your make 2019 resolutions, I urge you to review 2018. Look at what you did you accomplish and what you still have left to do. Don’t be discouraged or disappointed. Instead, be even more motivated to keep going. Make adjustments, be kind to yourself, and be patient. I’m still working on the last one.
And if you want to eat healthy and work out – go for it! Be creative – order salads, grilled chicken, and eat a handful, or three, of your kid’s fries. 😂 And instead of going to the gym, you could start with taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking instead of driving…across the shopping center, or rollerskating with a friend.
Thinking outside the box means you’re free to create your path. Yes, it’s scary to be the first; there is no one to follow or a paved path to walk, but now you know you have at least one person beside you on your journey. Just please go easy on me – I haven’t been to the gym yet…😂
